The Book

Punished for Working is a collection of experiences, thoughts and feelings of a social service worker who has started to question the effectiveness of services when it comes to encouraging independence and self-sufficiency.  It looks at how receiving free services via assistance programs outweighs the benefits of working - sometimes causing generational curses.

Punished for Working attempts to inject bits of comedy into real life scenarios that sadly suggest that not only has working become less appealing, one might be punished for doing it.  Some of the scenarios presented here are so unimaginable that the reader has to laugh to keep from crying.

Punished for Working is not for the squeamish – its purpose is to stimulate conversation.  It travels down streets most won’t dare to go – to the mindsets we’ve created now that assistance programs have replaced work and work is rewarded with punishment.
